I want to recognize the indigenous communities who persist in maintaining their identity and sovereignty in resistance of dispossession, occupation, and genocide. Their continuing struggle reminds us that we present on these lands today bear a responsibility to the ancestry and posterity of this land -- to dismantle the systems that dehumanize and commodify us, even when it puts us at risk of our own displacement and fugitivity.
